Commitment to Excellence Award

While watching a spectacular sunset overlooking Boston Harbor, the Pillar House Team of employees and their guests enjoyed a special evening at the World Trade Center. The annual Employee of the Month Recognition Dinner was held on May 2. This event is held in order to recognize all of the employees who have contributed throughout the year to the success of the Pillar House. The recognition includes this year's twelve employees and the Employees of the Month from previous years. As a grand finale, the Commitment to Excellence Award is presented to the employee who has made an exceptional contribution for the year.

Tom Larsen presented the 1999 Award to Nancy Monaghan, the Dining Room/Function Manager. Nancy has been featured in the newsletter in the last few months, first as the Pastry Chef and again in her current position. In 1990, the first Commitment to Excellence Award was bestowed on Cheryl Bannon for her passion in executing her responsibilities as the Dining Room Manager. Tom recalled a similar passion shown by Nancy. He highlighted her positive attitude, her approachable, professional manner with the staff and guests and her enthusiasm whether creating new desserts or streamlining the reservation procedures. The staff showed their agreement by giving her a standing ovation.
